  1.  40:1  To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. I waited
  2. patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my
  3. cry.
  4.  40:2  He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the
  5. miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, [and] established my
  6. goings.
  7.  40:3  And he hath put a new song in my mouth, [even] praise
  8. unto our God: many shall see [it], and fear, and shall trust in
  9. the LORD.
  10.  40:4  Blessed [is] that man that maketh the LORD his trust,
  11. and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.
  12.  40:5  Many, O LORD my God, [are] thy wonderful works [which]
  13. thou hast done, and thy thoughts [which are] to us-ward: they
  14. cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: [if] I would declare
  15. and speak [of them], they are more than can be numbered.
  16.  40:6  Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire; mine ears
  17. hast thou opened: burnt offering and sin offering hast thou not
  18. required.
  19.  40:7  Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book [it
  20. is] written of me,
  21.  40:8  I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law [is]
  22. within my heart.
  23.  40:9  I have preached righteousness in the great congregation:
  24. lo, I have not refrained my lips, O LORD, thou knowest.
  25.  40:10  I have not hid thy righteousness within my heart; I
  26. have declared thy faithfulness and thy salvation: I have not
  27. concealed thy lovingkindness and thy truth from the great
  28. congregation.
  29.  40:11  Withhold not thou thy tender mercies from me, O LORD:
  30. let thy lovingkindness and thy truth continually preserve me.
  31.  40:12  For innumerable evils have compassed me about: mine
  32. iniquities have taken hold upon me, so that I am not able to
  33. look up; they are more than the hairs of mine head: therefore
  34. my heart faileth me.
  35.  40:13  Be pleased, O LORD, to deliver me: O LORD, make haste
  36. to help me.
  37.  40:14  Let them be ashamed and confounded together that seek
  38. after my soul to destroy it; let them be driven backward and
  39. put to shame that wish me evil.
  40.  40:15  Let them be desolate for a reward of their shame that
  41. say unto me, Aha, aha.
  42.  40:16  Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in
  43. thee: let such as love thy salvation say continually, The LORD
  44. be magnified.
  45.  40:17  But I [am] poor and needy; [yet] the Lord thinketh upon
  46. me: thou [art] my help and my deliverer; make no tarrying, O my
  47. God.
  48.
